A Portrait of Andrea Righettini
The connection between athletic feat and creative spirit burns bright in Andrea Righettini. Inside the fun-loving attitude that he’s admired for on the Italian MTB scene is a deeply reflective person. Put a bike in front of Andrea, and you’ll see his creativity start to spill out. Where other more calculating athletes try to find the fastest line, Andrea is the rider who sees a playground of infinite possibilities to connect and create the most spectacular ride. This playful, adventurous spirit is what defines him as the athlete that he is today.
Like so many other creators, the path is not obvious and a beautiful victory can come just as easily and quickly as an ill-timed flat tire. Athletes like Andrea embody the artist-athlete, viewing their trade and tools as a way to create something different, more colorful and bolder than the most traveled line on the trail. When it all comes together, it’s a spectacle to see.
The bike seems to be a connection between Andrea’s inner creativity and the world around him. Much like a musician putting down the first notes to lyrics, watching Andrea train means seeing a few mistakes. On the first go around a new trail, errors abound as he pushes the creative envelope and his artistic license to the limit. But, like rockers of the Woodstock generation, emotion and energy are far more important than playing it by the book. By the second time around the course Andrea is rocking through lines no one else would think to take, with the strain of the effort written on his face, much to the joy of the crowd.
This very human, endearing attitude embodies Andrea more than any of his numerous victories, national titles, or Italian national team selection- he is here to connect to the world around him, to bring fun and color to his world. To hell with perfection, he’s here to create.
